It was Marion's uncle, Arthur Kilgour - then curator of the Vancouver Art Gallery - who gifted her with her first set of oil paints. From that time on, Marion was encouraged to paint wildlife and portraits until a serious car accident left her right arm injured.

After three years of not being able to paint, she experienced a miracle that inspired her to paint portraits of Jesus.
